It’s about Experience and People

No Commercial HVAC company keeps clients over multiple decades and projects without a value system that builds trust backed by outstanding performance. To understand the lessons we’ve learned since starting Sooner HVAC, you need to understand the commercial projects that helped define who we are as a company.

What we’ve learned by…

Invisible
Completing 80+ New Retail Centers

How many people have you worked with for 15 years that you’ve never met?

We’ve worked with Western Builders out of Amarillo on several retail new construction projects around Oklahoma and North Texas.

After 15 years of working together, something came up on the jobsite for a new store in Cushing, Oklahoma, and we needed to meet the builder.

It was on the drive up that I realized I had no clue what the guy actually looked like.

We had a great working relationship, and did numerous projects with them, but we’d never actually met face-to-face.

All they knew was the quality of our work and the quality of the correspondence that came from the office. Which is kind of an ideal way of doing business.

In this day of computers and emails, our job is to accomplish everything as much as possible without taking up your time as the contractor.

Lessons Learned

Lesson #1 – Dealing with us should be low impact.

Our job is easy when you hand us a good plan and a schedule. All we have to do is follow the plans in the time schedule allotted. You can focus on other headaches because we don’t cause one.

Some of our best customers, our biggest customers, I’ve never met. And we’ve been working together for decades.

Retrofitting 330 housing units in 9 months for Vance Air Force Base

To this day, Vance Air Force Base is the biggest job we’ve ever done.

They had 330 individual housing units that needed to be completely updated with new equipment, new ductwork, and new HVAC systems.

The only problem is that it was an active, fully staffed Air Force base, so all of the units were occupied.

Our job was to remove and replace the entire HVAC system in a home and have it running perfectly by 5pm that same day so the serving men, women, and their families could go about their business without interruption.

The original timeline was a year, but we were able to complete the project in 9 months.

We’re proud to say that everyone was able to sleep in conditioned comfort after our day upgrading their home heat and air.

Lessons Learned

Lesson #2 – Plan ahead and show up with everything you need for the job.

Knowledge and preparation gets the job done right and gets the job done fast.

Changing 5 Rooftop Units in 1 day for a Steakhouse

What happens when a storm completely shuts down your business?

You have to love Oklahoma weather. Boiling 100 degree summers, freezing ice storms in the winter, and consistent baseball sized hail in the spring.

What do you do when one of those hail storms takes out all 5 rooftop units for your restaurant?

How much money are you losing every evening that you can’t serve food?

Most businesses would be down for days, but we were able to replace all 5 roof units for the steakhouse in time for them to serve dinner that night.

Too many times I’ve been driving around town watching other HVAC companies working on a roof for days, on something that we would have had complete in a few hours.

Our crews are the absolute best in the city at changing out rooftop units.

We can look at the job and anticipate everything that’s going to be needed before we touch it. When we show up we have everything we need, crane scheduled, equipment ready, and no lapse in time waiting for supplies because we have anticipated all the requirements.

Lessons Learned

Lesson #3 – Pay to have the best people.

It is impossible to replace as many rooftop units as we do, as quickly as we do, without installers who are absolutely the best at what they do.

Lesson #4 – Provide custom parts in hours, not days.

Customers can’t wait days for custom parts. We can handle in an hour what takes other HVAC companies a day or two of delay because we don’t have to wait on 3rd party suppliers. We build and deliver the part that day, so the technician never has to leave the job site.
